1082-1 Higashiyama, Gotemba, Shizuoka

A perfect destination for those who love history, culture, and nature. At Toraya Kobo, you can enjoy traditional Japanese sweets and tea. Next door, the Former Kishi Residence in Higashiyama, once home to former Prime Minister Nobusuke Kishi, is open to the public. As the two sites are adjacent, you can take a leisurely stroll along the walking paths rich in nature, offering a tranquil retreat.

Modern Sukiya Architecture

Built in 1969 as Kishi’s private residence and opened to the public in 2009, this house was designed by architect Isoya Yoshida in his later years. It represents Modern Sukiya Architecture, blending contemporary elements with the traditional Sukiya-zukuri style, which reflects the aesthetics of traditional tea room designs. Architecture enthusiasts and students from around the world come to admire its craftsmanship.

The house features large openings that offer a view of the garden, allowing visitors to experience the beauty of the changing seasons in a serene atmosphere.
