1-18 Minookoen, Minoh, Osaka

Minoh National Park, located just north of Osaka, Japan, is a beautiful natural retreat known for its lush forests, picturesque waterfalls, and vibrant autumn foliage. It’s one of Japan’s oldest national parks, established in 1967, and offers a serene escape from the bustling city life of Osaka, making it a popular day-trip destination.

The park’s main attraction is the stunning Minoh Falls, a 33-meter waterfall nestled in a tranquil valley. The trail to the waterfall is a scenic, well-maintained path that takes about 30–45 minutes to walk from the park entrance. Along the way, visitors pass through a peaceful, forested area filled with maple trees, which turn brilliant shades of red and orange in the autumn, making it a favorite spot for “momiji-gari” (autumn leaf viewing). The park is also home to unique wildlife, including Japanese giant salamanders and monkeys, adding to its natural charm.

Aside from the natural scenery, Minoh National Park has cultural attractions such as the Ryuanji Temple, an ancient Buddhist temple near the waterfall. The temple, dedicated to healing and health, offers a tranquil spot for reflection and gives visitors a taste of Japan’s spiritual heritage. Another unique experience is tasting the local delicacy, “momiji tempura” – deep-fried maple leaves, a snack that’s especially popular in the fall.

The park is easily accessible by train from Osaka’s city center, making it convenient for tourists. Whether hiking, enjoying seasonal foliage, or exploring local culture, Minoh National Park provides a perfect blend of natural beauty and traditional Japanese atmosphere.
